Looks like Larry & staff signed a good class, most signees from the deep south. One unexpected suprise, a highly touted WR faxed in his LOI. He brought in a pro-style qb. The Eagles are very happy with his recruiting class.

And I am very happy that Fedora will at least start out with good talent in the stable... now that that hurdle is over with ..lets see what he does with that talent.

Who cares. He doesn't work for us anymore.

CoachOSU

Because he did a lot for the OSU program... He brought an explosive offense to OSU that got us to where we are.. being able to sign top offensive recruits and getting games on TV .. other than just OU and Texas...

THAT'S WHY

I care and I'm proud of him and I hope he succeeds. I think he did quite a lot for us and he left on good terms. Do I wish he was still here? Yes, but he's not and that is just part of college football.

Congrats to Larry and Staff. Hope they have great success in the future...

Two reasons to root for Fedora:

1. He did an excellent job for us when he was here and deserves a little loyalty for it.

2. If for whatever reason the program struggles in his absence, he is always a candidate to return as HC some day (though I am not suggesting that either will or should happen, it is good to keep options open).

I would say that Darrell Whyatt is an exception to that one...

Because if Boone strikes out on some of the big names he's wanting then Larry is going to be on the top of the list.

Congrats to Larry Fedora.

He's a proven commodity on the offensive side of the ball. Without a doubt. He's the reason why we've enjoyed success on the offensive side of the ball. Now, lets see how he does as the main man. If his team develops any kind of defense they could be lethal. Especially in their conference.

I, personally, wish him nothing but the best. I hope he wins every game, until he plays us. Then, it's a different story. ;)

Basically Larry will have a real shot at coming back to OSU as HC if Mike doesn't make a significant jump and Larry does what most people think he will do as a HC. There are a couple of different "names" that have been tossed about as being people the powers that be have an interest in. There's a reason that in Mike's contract that if he didn't win at least 6 games in year three he could be let go and only be owed one years salary.

So the reason someone would want to pull for Larry is because there's a real chance he could be our next HC if Mike doesn't start making a jump.

"Significant jump" in, say '10, '11, '12? NoFOG want to know.

Here we go....it sure didn't take long to get past a bowl win and another excellent recruiting class before the "...NEXT head coach (i.e. anybody other than Gundy)" drivel got cranked up.

But then, I hope - and expect - that we will have this same kind of post from the same names, naming the same names, 10 years from now. Only with Big XII championships and BCS bowl wins in the trophy case.

Gundy is the man for the job IMO. I'll give him time, however, we do need at least 7 or 8 wins this season to consider it a success, IMHO.

Pokevette

I agree, Gundy is the man for now. But anything less than 8 regular season wins this year and he will continue to be "at risk" regarding his future at OSU.

Boone was clearly NOT pleased with how this season went. He has made that point clear to the Coaches. OSU/Gundy needs to put a snowman on the board this year to get a breather.

All I was doing was answering a question as to why someone would want to care about what Larry is doing. I wasn't trying to say Gundy should be fired or anything like that, however it would be naive to believe he's not expected to start showing some improvments on the field. Larry is a legit candidate if Mike doesn't improve on the field. No complaints with Mike's recruiting but then again I had no complaints with Leonard Hamilton's recruiting either.

I fully expect next year to be a better year an 09 to be a real break through year.

I know you were just explaining. I wasn't trying to relate my post to yours, I just wanted to throw my hat in the Gundy supporter ring. However, if for some odd reason something doesn't work out with Gundy, I think Larry would be an excellent choice, given he succeeds at Southern Miss.

And I agree with you Pokevette, we definitely need 7 or 8 REGULAR season wins.

Oh, and Fedora's unproven...he'll never be HC at OSU.

CaliforniaCowboy
02-07-2008, 03:51 PM
this is a bunch of nonsense... Fedora hasn't even coached his first game, much less his first season... and already he's a "candidate"?

OMG... how about he actually gets some HC experience before the mindless chatter starts... bring it up again in 2 years.

If this, if that... the BS never ends. What if he doesn't... answer: no need to be having this discussion.

Let's drop the "if" stuff and wait until "IS" before we start flinging BS everywhere.

Who cares what Boone thinks??, he GAVE us the money, he took it as a tax write-off. He didn't BUY anything with it.

He's not the AD, he's a donor, simple as that. If he wants to buy a college football team then start a university, and then start a football team.

If you want a pro team, buy one like Jerry Jones did.

In the meantime, leave football decisons to football people (except message board idiots, like me), leave education decisons to education people.

We appreciate the donations, but if they come with meddlesome strings, our athletic dept. should wash our hands of the money and give it back!

accurate about what?

I like how people, Lewis and Squats, assume that Boone is making the calls.

The only thing accurate about Lewis' sub-title is that he is the insult part. He is not a comic and he can't be considered a loyal poke.

For some strange reason, he has listened to the Gooners and the rest of the Big XII fans who are jealous as hell of our Boone donations....and taken them to heart.

Organization charts are lost on him for some reason. He seems to forget that decisions are made in an organization made up of many constituents, not the least of which are people like you and me as the real and true customers. Without us, Boone's gazillions would create an empty taj mahal. And I guess he thinks the Board of Regents just has meetings to find new, creative ways to kiss Boone's ass, and President Hargis is just some dumb ex-lawyer/banker who is also Boone-pussy-whipped. As far as he is concerned, none of the rest of the donors who foot the bill have any say whatsoever. In his mind, it is the evil Boone against OSU fans who "truly see the light....in a kumbaya kinda way," forgetting that most of the fans kind of appreciate Boone giving us a fricking chance to compete when we had before, I don't know, NONE!

I tell you, some people like Verb can live in California and it doesn't effect their brains one iota, others spend a short time there and immediately join PETA and protest against Marine Recruiting Offices wearing pink tu-tu's.

But to your point, we had a chance to compete before, we have a chance to compete now;

How are Boise States facilities? How are Appalachian States facilities? Stanford beat SC, how are their facilities?

I've seen the Citadel beat Arkansas, Montana Tech beat Colorado.......I also remember a game in Troy, AL where we definitely out faciliti-ed our hosts.

We have a chance to win every game, all we have to do is score more points than the ugly guys; facilities have never scored a td, kicked a fg, or made a first down.....but they may have caused a turnover or two.

So is that who you wish this team would aspire to be? Boise State? Appalachian State? Citadel? Montana Tech? Please tell me you're joking.

If Boise State played uo another 10 times, they'd lose far more than they'd win. Same with Mich./App St. Why? Because on the whole, uo has better athletes, in part because they have better facilities.

No, facilities never scored a TD. But the better facilities will damn sure get you an athlete who's MORE LIKELY to score a TD.
