I sent Mike Holder a very civil email letting him know that Im concerned that this new marketing campaign will destroy the sea of orange we have worked hard to build over the past few years.

I didn't say anything negative about the song, just the modifications to Pete and the use of Black & Silver instead of Orange.

I did say that I hope this campaign dies a quick death.

He replied with this:

Thank you for your feedback. I plan on wearing my orange on Saturday and I hope to see 60,000 more orange shirts.



What I found odd about the email was that he copied Dave Martin, John Martin, Kyle Wray & Amy Weeks, when he replied.

Yes. She's one of the associate athletic directors, but she was probably included because athletic marketing falls under her blanket of responsibility.

I am writing you today about the new color scheme I am seeing at OSU. Black and Silver- The dark faced Pistol Pete. I noticed it everywhere during gameday saturday, (except on fans) and I can't tell you how it broke my heart to see our spirit rider carrying a black and silver flag. We have worked so hard to build the "Sea of Orange" atmosphere on saturdays! I'm even seeing orange throughout the week now! We finally have everyone on the same page. Now, we have this new color scheme showing up. I don't understand why.

We're orange! Pistol Pete isn't dark faced!

Thank you for you email and promotion of orange. We are on the same page and I proudly wear my orange on game day. The sea of orange on Saturday was impressive. The new campaign is simply an attempt to sell a few t-shirts and make some money. Everyone should continue to wear their orange on game day and Tuesday through Friday. However, buy the black Cowboys 4Ever t- shirt and wear it on Monday. A change of pace is good.
