We have been pounded over here this afternoon and tonight. So far, last I heard, about 14 twisters on the ground here in the Mid-South. Several here in Memphis and this county. So far one fatality. One hit a mall. One hit a 24 hour warehouse. Several people in critical condition. 60 and 70 mph straight line winds.

And those damn sirens.

I live about dead square in the middle of 3 sirens so I get to hear them all. And they all have different tones.

About to go bonkers over here. 6 hours of sirens is enough.:eek:

I believe I said we were getting pounded over here..........

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/02/06/tornadoes/

Nasty nasty weather. Too many people lost their lives on this round but it could have been so much worse. The Union university students huddled in the basements of some of the dorms and avoided injury. But I heard the president of the university say last night that the school is a shambles. Union University is a small private school in Jackson, Tn (about 90 miles from Memphis). The mall that got damaged is about 7 to 8 miles SSW of where I live and the warehouse that got hit so hard is about 9 miles from me. Other tornadoes touched down just to my north and NE. One went down an old beautiful road that used to have big old oaks and elms that almost umbrella'ed it and now they say it is about 2 miles of downed trees. No one hurt but a real mess.

It will be interesting to see what the NWS says about how many actual tornadoes actually touched down.

How'd you fare Al?? We got about 70 mph stright line winds here. Not too much damage. About 40 miles north an F3 went through a trailer park and killed 3 people. In a town about 20 miles SE of here they found 4 dead this morning. Did you hear about the fire caused by the gas line explosion? You could see it for about 50 miles in either direction. It was a faint glow ion the horizon from here, but the pics on the tennessean's website shows how bad it was. Flames about 400 to 500 feet in the air is what they were reporting. Numerous fatalities reported, but none confirmed yet. Crazy crazy weather last night. Hope you are OK Al.

I am fine but from what I am hearing the death toll is now up to 48 for all the states this monster touched. I really feel for those families.

The warehouse that was hit here in Memphis was a huge complex and apparently not everyone knew that what was going on outside. Large warehouse filled with sound deadening material and there are reports that they never heard the sirens. 3 were found dead in the breakroom of the building which was in the middle and was just some thrown up walls with sheetrock.

The NWS says that there were 30 tornado's reported to them in Tennessee but they don't know how many actually touched down. Those that were SW of me skipped over and landed (or others came down) to the NE of me.

A tremendous amount of downed trees and power lines. 24,000 customers without electricity this morning......just in Memphis.

Glad you are safe.

Man oh man...I am so thankful BOTH of you are safe. That is just wild. I cant believe they were so CLOSE to you Al. Good grief. That's just too close.

I hope there isn't anyone you know that is among the injured/deceased. So incredibly sad.
