Nerdy number talk, for those that MIGHT be interested...

I had a programmer code an "information form" into my website, because I wanted to try and capture some of the web visitors to my page. Only problem was I don't get many visitors to my page...

So I signed up for google adwords. It's "pay-per-click". When you do a google search, it's the paid results that show up on the right hand side of the page. Wasn't sure how well they worked, but thought it was worth a shot.

Uh....wow.

Today is day 17 of my little advertising campaign. Here's the breakdown of the results so far:

10,641 Visual Impressions (how many times the ad gets shown)
121 Clicks (a 1.13% response rate, not too bad)
8 Inquires (6.61% rate, which I think is VERY good)
4 sales (50% of my inquiries have turned to BOOKED DJ gigs)

Total cost of the campaign to date is $63.89. The four gigs total $2050 in bookings (I discount non-Saturday events). Best part is that two of those are in the first quarter, when I usually don't make any money from real estate OR DJ work...

Anyways, thought it might be interesting for any of you self-employed types looking for some decent web marketing. Working brilliantly so far for my application...

That's really good for such a short time period. What type of searches will trigger your ads popping up? "man ho" and the like? ;-)

What is your site...I can't remember off the top of my head.

Fort Worth DJ has 423 impressions and 8 clicks, a 1.89% response rate...better than the overall average.

The highest performing keyword (in terms of being pulled up on a search) is "dallas party" at 5,283 impressions and 77 clicks (1.45% response rate). That FAR surpasses any other term, and I've allocated more funds for a higher cost per click. Seems to be the bread and butter.

The highest percentage click is "dfw party". 297 impressions, 9 clicks (3.03%). I would attribute that to my domain name being www.dfwparties.com. They're already thinking "dfw party", so I would imagine that domain name prompts them to click through. It's all I can come up with, since it's nearly triple the normal click-through rate.

The key, I've noticed, is getting them on the phone. Once I get to a voice, I can pretty much close them (unless they're dead set on price shopping...I'm not the cheapest dj in the metroplex). That's why I think the 50% inquiry/closing rate is happening.

Right now, I'm only budgeting $4.25/day for clicks. If these numbers hold true another 4-6 weeks, and I continue a similar rate of bookings, I'll probably max out the budget.

Google can be a very powerful friend, uh Rod?

Think about the other upside to all of these new bookings....you might get a chance to meet some new young ladies so you can take some more of your pics and post them on the board.

Isn't the whole point of running a DJ business to meet women?! :-)

At $600-$800 per 4 hour gig? The women are just a fringe benefit.

(The whole groupie thing, by the way, is very real. Never understood that whole phenomenon, but it's legit).
