Not a fan of Jenni, but this article is pretty good. But, most of it is quotes and comments, not her opinion, which is why it is tolerable.

Jenni Carlson: Pistols fire at OSU tune "Cowboys Forever" To some, lyrics are words to jeer by

In the event you’re looking to fire up Oklahoma State fans these days, you need mention only two words.

Not "Georgia Bulldogs” or "Heisman Trophy.” Not "SI cover” or "preseason hype.”

No, the hot-button words are "Cowboys Forever.”

That is the name of a new song celebrating what it means to be an OSU Cowboy. It was written and performed by John Martin, a longtime fan of all things orange and black, and it will be used during pregame festivities at football games. Cowboy. It was written and performed by

Sounds great, right?

Well, many a Cowboy fan thinks otherwise.

The song feels like a cross between Christian contemporary and modern country, and it has become a lightning rod for message-board fodder and bar-stool debate in recent weeks. The lyrics have been ridiculed. The music has been mocked. Even Martin has become a target.

Monday afternoon on Twitter, I asked if there were any OSU fans who had an opinion about the song. There were a dozen or so replies in less than half an hour, and they were overwhelming negative.

"I think it is awful!” one said. "Everyone I have talked to has the same opinion, too.”

"It’s not an awful song,” another said. "It’s just awful considering what it’s being used for.”

Perhaps this is where we need a bit of clarification.

"Cowboys Forever” is not the song that will play as the football team takes the field. It’s not the music for the intro video, which in previous years has featured "Back in the Saddle” by Aerosmith (http://newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Aerosmith&CATEGORY=ORGANIZATION). It’s not going to replace whatever pumping, bumping, thumping song brings the Cowboys onto the Boone Pickens Stadium turf.

"There’s a lot of misconception about this song being the song that the football team runs out to,” Martin said. "The team will not come out right when this video and song are done.”

Maybe that misinformation has fueled some of the angst about his song.
Earlier this year, OSU athletic director Mike Holder approached Martin and his friend Taylor Bolding about producing a pre-game video. Martin would handle the music, and Bolding would manage the footage.

Martin was honored by the opportunity. As the son of longtime OSU associate athletic director Dave Martin, he was raised on Cowboy athletics. He knows the history. He lives the passion. Had he been offered a football scholarship to OSU, he would’ve jumped at the chance.
He played at Baylor instead, but he once again calls Stillwater home.

By the end of April, the song was done.

A few days later, Martin found himself at Garth Brooks (http://newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=Garth+Brooks&CATEGORY=PERSON)’ house. He told the former OSU track athlete turned country music megastar about his new song, and Brooks asked to hear it. He tapped his toe as Martin played, then sang back the chorus when Martin was done.

Not long after, Martin got a call from Holder. Some representatives from Nike were visiting Stillwater, and after Holder told them about the song, they wanted to hear it. Martin went to Hideaway, and sitting in his car outside the pizza place with four Nike reps, he played the recording on his car stereo for them.

They decided then and there that Nike wanted to get involved.
The athletic apparel giant not only took control of the production of the video but also decided to spin off the "Cowboys Forever” title. It has launched a "Cowboys 4ever” line and will even be giving away T-shirts and hats to students before the Georgia game.

Garth Brooks likes the song.

Ditto for Nike.

The Cowboy Nation? Not so much.

Sure, it doesn’t make you want to burst onto the field and tear someone’s head off, but it might be a nice break from the pregame rap and heavy metal. It’s music you can sit down to.

It sticks in your mind, too. Take it from someone who can’t get the opening bars out of her head.

But the song has caused all manner of wailing and gnashing of teeth. It has even become the target of an Internet video spoof that is adding more views on YouTube (http://newsok.com/keysearch/?er=1&CANONICAL=YouTube+LLC&CATEGORY=COMPANY) by the minute.

Martin isn’t isolated from the criticism.

"I honestly never thought I’d be compared to the Jonas Brothers,” he said. "It’s so funny.”

While he has received hundreds of positive and supportive messages, he knows that negativity comes with the territory as an artist. He had to laugh, though, at a message from a man he recently received via his Web site.

"He tells me, ‘I just wanted to let you know that my wife is pregnant and I will not let her hear this song because I’m worried that it will kill my unborn child,’” said Martin, who might be one of the nicest guys you’d ever meet. "Somebody actually wrote that. I couldn’t even make that up.”

He chuckled.

"It’s going to be the most anticipated pre-game in OSU history.”

One question though.....
Who the heck are the OSU Fan's following Garbage Jenni on Twitter?

.... and what is her infatuation with Bars?

"message-board fodder and bar-stool debate"

Two things she is apparently experienced in...

"Take it from someone who can’t get the opening (of) bars out of her head."

"message-board fodder and bar-stool debate"

goes hand in hand with "rumors and rumblings" and "word on the street".
