DALLAS — Former Oklahoma State and SMU football coach Dave Smith has died.
A memorial service was planned Friday for Smith, 76, at McKinney Memorial Bible Church in Fort Worth.
Teaching Pastor Chris Freeland says Smith, who lived in Granbury, died Saturday in hospice care in Burleson. Freeland said Smith had cancer.
Freeland told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Smith had a "sweet, gentle spirit" and you would never have believed "he could have taken on the big, ugly lineman running around on a football field."
Smith led OSU during the 1972 season, going 6-5. His record at SMU, from 1973-75, was 16-15-2.
