All Hypothetical,

Who do you think they would invite/snag if they ever expanded?

I would bet definitely Brigham Young as a first choice, but I am unsure of a second choice.

I always here that Colorado would drop the Big 12 in a heartbeat for a chance to go to the Pac 10. If not Colorado, the other other two potential schools are not as attractive, Hawaii and Utah.

If not Colorado, Utah is the next best alternative. It's a geographic fit. Importing a rivalry with BYU, a growing state, and a very strong recent tradition of football prominence (2 more BCS wins than most schools in the country)

-----------------------------------------------------------------
In addition, if Colorado did bolt the Pac 12, Who would you pick to replace them?

Some regional potential mates.
-Air Force Academy
-Arkansas
-Colorado St.
-Houston
-Iowa
-New Mexico
-Texas Christian

Just some thoughts I had at work today.

My pick would be Arkansas, if possible.

Air Force, Iowa and Colorado St. would keep the symmetry of the North/South Big 12.

Houston is probably the most competitive at the non BCS schools listed in revenue sports.

Arkansas followed by TCU as my second choice.

I'd prefer to keep Arkie from recruiting in Texas like they used to, so they are not my first choice.

I'd say Colorado State to help hold the Denver market for the league.

The Pac-10 expanding is something that gets brought up, but they are going to be academic snobs about letting a school in. That's why Boise State - which competes in the Pac-10 for wrestling - will never be allowed as a full member. I could see BYU, and possibly Utah. But that's it unless they really want to expand to the east.

I'd pick TCU, put them in the Big12 South and bump us into the Big12 North!!!! :D

If the scenario came up, it would be interesting. Lots of politics involved.

I prefer sticking to a geographical region as closely as possible. In the PAC-10 I'd want either Hawaii or some other school that truly sits on the west coast - San Diego State maybe? Utah or BYU would probably be more realistic, but screw realism.

For the Big 12, I'd be comfortable with TCU but would prefer Arkansas.

I would say TCU or Huston also, with the Pokes moving North.

I personally would hate being moved to the North. Yea we would be the best team but having to play Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Missouri, and Nebraska every year would be BORING. I know we play in the toughest division in collge football but it's much more exciting playing the South teams every year.

I say stay in the South. Its easier to get to football and basketball games when you play at South teams.

If the Pokes "moved North", then that would be a recruiting death sentence for OSU...

right now we can promise those Texas kids that they'll be playing near their folks, friends and family at least twice a year... lose that recruiting promise and you're relegated to the KU, KSU, ISU level of recruiting appeal in Texas.

I actually prefer our games against the North - it keeps that old Big 8 feel, and it means I don't have to go to Texas yet again. Going to Texas gets old.

I also don't think we need any more Texas schools in the league. It dilutes recruiting, and my personal belief is that the conference doesn't need any more reasons to favor Texas schools.

Exactly. This is what happened to Arkansas when they left for the SEC - their Texas recruiting dried up fast. Arkie is only 16 games over .500 for their tenure in the SEC, and a big part of it is because they don't get the recruits they need from Texas. That's why they agreed to that series with A&M.

Houston made their argument in my rhetorical question.
