OSU's Tyler Shinn (ranked 16th) starts off the dual against no 1 ranked Jayson Ness. Jayson is tall for 125 lbs and one of the best wrestlers in the country at any weight. Jayson boast a 27-0 record and is a pin artist. 3 takedowns in the first period, back points in the second, Jayson won with a major 18-5. Tyler did well not allowing a technical win or a pin.

At 133 lbs, Cowboy's No. 1 rank Coleman Scott took control in the first period taking down #5 ranked Mack Reiter at the 2:43 mark and riding him out till the end of the period. Coleman started the second period down, but not for long scoring an escape and a take down to take a 5-0 lead into the third period. Good guy wins 8-2.

141 matched #2 Nathan Morgan against #3 Manuel Rivera. The two seniors showed why they are ranked so high with a very close match. Rivera scored first with a takedown and held a 2-1 advantage going into the second period. Nathan had a take down in the second period with Rivera scoring on two escapes. The third period had Nathan down 3-4 which didn't last long as Nathan escaped to tie it up 4-4. A take down with one minute left lifted Morgan to the win 6-4.

Sr. Cowboy Ryan Freeman wrestled at 149 with Minnesota wrestling Fr. Luke Mellmer instead of #2 ranked Dustin Schlatter. Freeman totally dominated and should have gotten a Major. The only points Mellmer score were two let ups and and illegal hold. 8-3

Cowboy Fr. Neil Erisman vs #6 CP Schlatter. I don't know why Newly didn't wrestle. Neil didn't have much of a chance here, Schlatter picked up the Major 12-2 win. Sorry, I didn't get a good pic.
OSU 9 Minn 8

At 165 lbs Jake Dieffenbach ranked no. 5 vs unranked Tyler Safratowich. Jake struggled to score in this match and it went into overtime at 1-1. Jake almost scored a takedown in overtime, but the ref ruled out of bounds. THis brought on the Boos from the cowboy faithful. Tyler wasted little time when the two centered up, getting the take down and winning and getting the upset.

No 7 Brandon Mason wrestled an unranked Gabe Dretsh. For the second time during this duel, an unranked Gopher beat a high ranked cowboy. Brandon lost this on 3-5.
And of course, I didn't get a picture.
OSU 9 Minn 14

Unranked Cowboy Sr. Jack Jensen wrestled 5th ranked Gopher Roger Kish at 184. Kish got the take down in the first period and Jack got a take down in the second. Both wrestlers also got an escape apiece. This one went into overtime at 3-3. Jack wanted it more and won with the take down. The place went wild.

197 Clayton Foster vs Justin Bronson, a cowboy must win. No points scored in the first period. A gopher escape, a takedown by Foster at the end of period 2 had cowboy Foster up 2-1 with 1 min of riding time. Bronson was called for locking hands, awarding Foster with one point and a cowboy escape lead to a 4-1 victory.

Do or die at heavy weight. No 7 Jake Rosholt vs unranked Ben Berhow. Should be a given, but with three upsets for the day, nothing is a sure thing. Jake gets a takedown and tons of riding time to lead the first period 2-1. and that's when I stopped taking notes. Jake wins. Cowboys win!

I sit on the front row right in the middle of the court. Taking pictures and trying to write down what's going on is a little harder to do than I thought it would be. I'll try it again at the next dual.

Dieffenbach didn't almost score a takedown, he did score a takedown; however, he was not awarded a takedown and subsequently lost the match.

I feared for Pat Fitzgerald's life if Minnesota had won this dual by less than 6 points, but Jensen saved his life.

Also apparently, half the team was suffering from the flu, so that could why some of our guys looked pretty tanked earlier than usual.
