I was e-mailing back and forth with pete2002 because my wife and I would like to join the big group of tailgaters. I told pete we would bring stuff or kick in money for the deal, but also, if any of you are interested, I would bring a griddle up and cook fried onion burgers for one of the games for the group.

Erick and others, if you guys would like this let me know and we can work out what game to do it.

This is a great idea! You know you don't have to look far to join a big group. Look forward to seeing you there!

You El Reno folks sure love them onion burgers. I was there yesterday looking at job sites and we went to Jobe's. One of the better onion burgers in town IMO.

We have a preliminary menu calendar up on the tailgate committee board and onion burgers would definitely fit in. We like to have a few different things just in case there are picky eaters but you are still talking about 50-100 burgers. How big of a griddle do you have? How would you feel about doing the Rice game? I was thinking wings and jemacan jerk chicken, but we can do burgers in lieu of jerk chicken.

Jobe's has a good onion burger but the charcoal burger there is the best. I always go to Johnnie's for onion burgers.

The grill I have can cook 12 burgers at a time but onion burgers cook real quick. I cooked 90 burgers last Saturday night for a friends party and did that in less then an hour. We usually prepair for 2 a person if there is other food. I think Rice would be fine. We can discuss the details later.

Texas is another option since it will be a all beef tailgate.

Hell, maybe we can do both.

1205,

you know how we feel about Johnnies and onion burgers! I'll do whatever I can to help out as well. If all is well here, maybe i can make a big bucket of coney slaw and we can have hotdogs too.

Can't wait to see you and your wife there!

Tailgaters wouldn't know what hit them with onion burgers and coney's.

I can't wait!!

We live here in Tulsa where the best coneys come from (in our opinion)--I would love to bring original coney island chili for a bunch of hot dogs. Are we talking the Georgia game? All I need to know is an approximate amount of Coney Island Chili. CJ and I are so looking forward to the football season. We can bring anything someone can suggest that is needed. Just let me know!!

It will be soooooooo good seeing everyone--it has been a long winter, spring and we are now in the "twilight" of summer and football season is almost here!!:):)

The Georgia tailgate is set, it's a great possibility though for the Houston tailgate. Sounds great guys!

Is there anything you'd like a Dawg to bring? I've been told the beer in Oklahoma is a tad bit more tame, so I would be glad to drive some down from Wichita, or bring whatever you guys need.

I would consider Boiled Peanuts but those things aren't so good after a plane ride. :)

In Oklahoma we have two options of beer. The kind you get in the grocery store/convenient stations like bud, miller and coors. The difference in alcohol is probably one beer per case. The other option is the liquor store that sells real beer. You are more than welcome to bring some beers, that would be a great way to make some orange friends.

Is there a special technique to boiling peanuts? Could we do it at the gate?

Refrigerated

Non-Refrigerated

In Oklahoma you just have to have the patience to wait till the beer gets cold!:D

Boiling peanuts will usually take you the better part of an afternoon, so it's not generally good tailgate food unless you have a night game.

This is typically the recipe I use if I'm cooking on a stove and not in a big boiler:

6 quarts water
1 Can of Chicken Broth
1/2 cup of salt or more to taste (takes lots of salt to absorb through the shell)
2lb Bag of Peanuts
Boil 5-7 hours until peanuts inside the shell take on a pea-like texture and shell becomes a little mushy to touch

Anywhere after 4 hours, you want to taste one and see if you need to add more salt. They should be pretty salty, but you can definitely overdue it. You can also substitute the chicken broth with another 1/2 cup of salt if you'd like.

If you like a little more flavor like I do, add some cajun spices or some cayenne peppers, etc. at the beginning.

Obscure fact: Georgia should really be known as the "Peanut State" because we produce far and away more of those lil buggers than any other place. South Carolina actually produces more peaches, than Georgia.

I hope one of you 'Pokes will try this recipe and tell me what you think of the boiled peanut. I'd be curious to hear.

So they are peanuts....that are boiled......until mushy......and salty....and they take 7 hours to do. You dawgs are a persistent bunch aren't ya!

I am just kidding with ya, but there will be a lot of us that will be there early enough to make them if you want us to. Sounds like fun. If we make boiled peanuts, will you try calf fries?

Hey 1205, is your griddle pretty big? We could have a breakfast tailgate at some point too. It was a real challenge to scramble 36 eggs and bacon in a cast iron skillet last year.

I was thinking the same thing...........

Why not just buy a bag of roasted, salted peanuts, from the store & save the time?

Then you can just put them in your coke!

The griddle my dad has can cook 12 burgers at a time. I can probably get a bigger one, these things are freaking heavy to move around though. We thought about the breakfast tailgate as well and I can do some breakfast burritos with a big skillet and my dads griddle. We can get together sometime and discuss some of this. Maybe have a beer after work or something. If your in El Reno, we can go to the Hook and Slice or the Elks or anywhere in Yukon. I bet Steven would join us too.

Isn't there a good pub in El Reno? Somebody told me about it. I hope to do some work on my tailgate trailer this week. When it's done, I plan on having a dual burner/griddle and a turkey fryer burner.

Gilmore's calls itself a Pub. For the best variety of beer I would say the Elks would be best. I should be able to get away any night this week but tomorrow night. Like I said we can meet up anywhere.

I know a perfect place we can meet for beers!!! Down in blanchard there's a place called "The Haggard Bar", we can go down there and drink beer all night long and work on my bus project!!!! :D

It's got to be done in 12 more days!!!!!

Since 66% of the attendees to this meeting live in Yukon, maybe we should meet there. How about Interurban sometime this week?

How much needs to be done on the bus?

I was thinking that you should have a pre season tailgate just to pratice to shake the rust off. You wouldn't want to go into the most important season in Cowboy history and not be fully prepared. Since you live around the city I'm sure there would be enough fans willing to test out the food and brew to make sure it was good.
