Defense:

-- Senior DE Roderick Battle had 2.5 sacks
-- Freshman DE Montez Robinson had 2 sacks
-- Sophomore DE Justin Houston had 1 sack (suspended for OSU game)
-- Junior LD/DE Daryl Gamble had a half sack
-- Freshman DE Kwame Geathers had a half sack

Richt quotes: "Cox worked the second half of the scrimmage. We wanted to see the young kids get more reps on the movement of the ball drives. Joe handled third downs and the overtime we had. We had a 4-minute drill, and the offense was able to run the clock out. The defense won both of the one-minute drills. The offense moved it well, but ran out of time."

Why no King or Green?

Why no King or Green?

Caleb King has a hamstring issue and will miss a couple weeks but should be more than fine for the opener.

Green is fine but they wanted to give the younger guys more looks. They know what he can do.

I was hoping that Joe Cox needed more reps. Damn, he must be ready to go or they are afraid that might not be.

Cox is a 5th year Senior? I believe. He knows the system and what the coaches need him to do.

Let us hope what he knows does not translate into a performance on the field that the Cowboy defense cannot handle. I wish him all the best after game one.

In other words I was hoping that he needed a lot of work in dusting off that rust he has accumulated all these years while sitting on the bench and waiting for his turn.

I think they're just asking Cox not to lose the game for them.... keep it simple and let the other skill players get it done.

IMHO this Georgia team will be the toughest we will face all year. If we can pull this one off with a W, all of the hype will come true. Here's hoping...Go Cowboys!!!

With Joe, the only question in his game is the physical. Actually going out there and physically making the throws and staying in rhythm.

As for the mental part, he's one of the smartest guys they have. Joe will be a Graduate Assistant on somebody's staff next year. Has always maintained he wants to be a coach. He's from the highly successful Charlotte-Independence HS that produced UF's MNC winning QB Chris Leak. Joe never lost a game in high school either.

FirstDawgHere,

How is Cox on scrambling and throwing on the run?

FirstDawgHere,

How is Cox on scrambling and throwing on the run?

He's definitely not a guy whose game is suited to making plays with his legs, but his mobility is adequate. They want to keep him in the pocket if at all possible.

This is my assessment of his game--

Strong Points:
Intangibles (Without question this is biggest attribute. The team loves him, he's never lost a game as a starter dating back to HS, and he's the unquestioned leader of this team)
Very Accurate Passer
Smarts (He has a full grasp of this offense)

Weak Points:
Size (He's not very tall and UGA has some big boys up front to throw over)
Game Experience
Arm Strength (He can make all the necessary throws but is not a guy with a cannon)

I found two videos on Joe Cox. There is one for those with a short attention span (1:35) and one for the more studious (7:05). I'm sure you have taken notice of the nickname.

Wow it seems like the offense got the better of the defense in the scrimmage, especially the RBs.
