i am currious at how good the big 12 has put defensive players and wr's in the nfl . it is intreaging to know that with all the highly recruited qbs that the conference has done its ironic that nobody except sage and senica wallace have lasted in the nfl. the weird thing is sage was not a popular big 12 qb but he has thrown more touchdowns then nate h. from ou and chris simms from texas , and reggie mcnell , kliff kingsburry and jason white .
does anyony have a idea as to why the big 12 puts so few qbs into the nfl.

i thought al pena had a nfl caliber arm but he was victimized by wrs droping passes and a oline that was getting 15 yard penalties like they were in a contest.

could college 's be doing a piss poor job of developing players to move into the next level ? i am just curious.

Dual threat QB's, which are prevalent in the Big12, do not last in the NFL.

I'm guessing VY will last...he's really all that the Titans have going for him, and he's been able to work with a pretty terrible receiving corps (and that's including former Sooner, Brandon Jones, who had quite a few drops this year)....

Seneca Wallace has been a good back-up, as has Sage Rosenfels...it seems like with the current QBs at schools, there's more of a chance for them to get picked up (even though two of the better ones are undersized and don't really match the standard NFL measurables)...

I guess we'll see in the end...Jason White could've been, if he didn't have two blown knees...Josh Heupel was a great college QB but never made it in the pros because he didn't have the strongest arm...Nate Hybl was decent and got a look in NFL Europe...Paul Thompson got a look from the Packers in the preseason and even passed their third string QB (Ingle Martin), however, he got cut before the season as they only held onto two QBs...Sam Bradford seems to fit the mold, but he's still got a few years to go...

With OSU, Josh Fields went pro in baseball and has done very well there, so I think he made the right decision...Al Pena never seemed like he had what it took, IMHO...Bobby Reid has all the skills but still needs to work on playing smarter and tougher...he'll have that chance next year...Zac Robinson looks like someone who could definitely put together a pro career....

Texas has Chris Simms in the league (who's recovering still from a ruptured spleen) and Vince Young who was rookie of the year last year...Major Applewhite is proving to be a good coach and is advancing his career in that field...Colt McCoy looks like he could be a good NFL QB...

Texas A&M had Reggie McNeal, and he's a converted WR in the NFL....Stephen McGee is a running back playing QB, IMO...he's got a good arm, but has never been able to showcase it...he's a good runner...we'll see how he turns out...

Texas Tech QBs have struggled in the pros because, for the most part, Tech's QBs were great system QBs but didn't have the arm strength or accuracy to make it in the NFL...Harrell is their best chance to put out a pro QB, IMO...

That pretty much does it for the South, as no one expects anything from Baylor's QBs....

Not sure VY will last...granted he's a hell of an athlete but I don't think he's managed to put together a whole season without getting hurt.

the only one that I remember lasting long was that guy from Colorado that they called slash, or whatever his name was (Cordell Stewart?)

I think there was a QB from Kansas that did pretty well for a while (some time back).

The lack of NFL QBs from the Big12 probably isn't that surprising considering that few run a pro set; and the NFL only takes about half a dozen QBs in any one year.... from about 200 college teams... those odds right there are pretty low to begin with..

how many QB even come out of one conference in a season? We've got a lot of guys returning this year; not sure how many left but it's not a lot to begin with.

I had always liked vince young but sometimes i think a offensive coordinator sometimes puts a qb in a less then favorable position. I think fields made the right decision too. My point when i started this was thatespn was having a discusion on the lack of good to really good qbs coming into the nfl. i think also that having a strong arm qb who may not be mobile could be a better then having a mobile qb with a average arm. but that is my opinion.
