OSU's Riley, OU's Paris on Naismith midseason list

From Staff Reports
Oklahoma State sophomore basketball player Andrea Riley and Oklahoma junior Courtney Paris were among 31 players named to the 2008 Naismith Trophy midseason list on Tuesday.

The women's list, which includes 31 candidates because of a tie, was voted on by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, comprised of basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country.

The board based its criteria on player performances this season, and the list was narrowed down from the preseason list of 50 candidates who were announced at the beginning of the season.

A two-time Big 12 Player of the Week selection this season, Riley currently leads the league in scoring at 22.8 points per game. The Dallas, Texas native ranks among the league leaders in field goal percentage (9th), free throw percentage (7th), assists (8th), steals (1st) and 3-point field goal percentage (6th).

This is the third season Paris has been a Naismith semifinalist.

The 2007 National Player of the Year was one of four finalists for the award as both a freshman and sophomore.

The list of 31 will be trimmed to four finalists in February with the Naismith Trophy winner being announced April 7 at the 2008 NCAA Final Four in Tampa.

Tennessee's Candace Parker, a finalist a year ago, and Connecticut freshman Maya Moore are also on the midseason list.
