Welcome. So how's the Dawgs looking? Any players we need to watch? Our offensive players to watch are pretty obvious, Bryant, Hunter, Robinson, Okung. On defense,Chinasa, Sexton, and Cox. Hopefully, by gametime we will have more defensive players you need to watch.

Offensively here are the guys:

WR A.J. Greene
TE Orson Charles (versatile freshman who they already love. He could be at TE, or even split out wide.)
TE Aaron White (Richt scored him out of Columbia, Missouri right under the Tigers noses. He is on the smallish side but very likely. I would think when he's in the game that he's more of a pass receiver than run blocker)
FB Shaun Chapas (UGA has been on a good streak with excellent fullbacks and he's next in line. Bobo likes to throw to the FB and he is a featured part of the package, especially in short yardage. Look for him to be heavily involved)
RB Whoever (UGA just seems to always have a RB. Even if it's 3 different guys, you can bet they'll run the football)

If you like line play then you'll probably be a fan of Center Ben Jones. He is a nasty young kid who lasted his entire freshman year banging heads with SEC DT's. Fun to watch. Sturdivant the LT is back off of a knee injury and when healthy he is the most talented OL on the team.

Mike Bobo and Mark Richt really believe in balance. They want to have as close to a 50-50 ratio when it comes to run and pass. UGA sets almost everything up off of play-action. They heavily use the TE and last year they did not have a great one for the first time in a long time. If Charles, White and Lynch can step up at the TE position, Richt's offense is at it's most potent.

Defensively:

MLB Rennie Curran (Lead returning tackler in the SEC. Probably shortest guy on the field, enough said)
SS Reshad Jones (One of the most talented guys on the team but one still looking to live up to that potential. He is big, strong and very fast. The NFL Combine will love him, but his performance on the field has been slightly disappointing. This could be his year)
DT Any of 4 guys (UGA is loaded here maybe more than any other position. Owens is back after ripping a knee on his first series of the year. He will likely start alongside Geno Atkins. Senior Kade Weston is a gigantic run stuffer and DeAngelo Tyson is the young buck, but more talented than the other 3. They will rotate a lot)
CB Brandon Boykin (Sophomore headed into his first year as a starter. They are really pleased with him and he could have a big year)

Martinez is a coach who believes in the Tampa 2 defense. He has never been overly aggressive with blitzes but would rather make offenses put together long marches. UGA struggled mightily at DE last year to find a pass rush and all the other bad things trickled off of that. If Georgia can't get pressure with the front four, it will be tough to slow OSU down. Martinez will definitely want safety help over the top with Dez Bryant on every play.

UGA really believes last years defensive issues were an anomaly and that they are going back to the Junkyard Dawgs defense in '09. They get a stern test right off the bat and that's all you can ask for as a fan.

These inter-sectional games are so much fun to visit another area of the country and meet a lot of new people. Glad we could get these 2 games on the schedule!

If you could leave behind 2 of your DTs and not tell anyone it would be most appreciated!

Am expecting Bobo to pound on our DL until we run blitz and then start throwing to Green and your TEs. We have young Safeties and their play will be a huge factor in the game, they play well we win, they bite on too many you win.

It was 125 on the field for the Cowboys first fall practice in the stadium. Uga might want to request an air conditioned dog house.

Yeah, if you could spare a couple of defensive tackles, we sure would be appreciative.

I think it will be an evenly matched game. I have no idea if Gundy and Co. want to run through the tackles, options or sweeps to establish Kendall Hunter but if they can, then it will open it up for Dez. Definitely need a second or third receiver to stand out.

Defensely, I'm not that worried. No turnovers and the Cowboy offense clicking is what will win the game for us.

Funny that you mentioned the air conditioning. His dog house at Sanford Stadium, is in fact air conditioned. I just can't remember if they bring it along on road trips.

One thing is for sure, that dog will stay in a better hotel and eat better food than any of us.

UGA VII Gets a New House From McCar Homes

ugaviidoghouse0808.jpgMcCar Homes and LP have built the new University of Georgia mascot, UGA VII, a new home that is sure to keep him happy! The adorable red doghouse is trimmed in black and sports a white roof.

His name and plenty of Georgia “G’s” are placed all over, making this doghouse fit for the newest member of the UGA dynasty. McCar used LP building products and put a lot of thought into engineering the perfect game day resting spot for UGA.

The home uses all environmentally friendly products and includes an air conditioning unit, radiant barrier, and siding with a 50 year warranty. The radiant barrier is a unique building product that keeps homes cooler without putting stress on the AC unit and can lower cooling bills by 17%. In fact, when compared to the old UGA doghouse, the new radiant barrier kept this doghouse 20 degrees cooler without even turning on the AC! That is essential for a bulldog who has trouble staying cool in the day time heat. The house even comes equipped with LP TopNotch 350 Sub-Florring which has self-draining notches, so that on a really hot day, UGA VII can lay on a bag of ice without making a mess in his new home. So whether you will be attending this Saturday’s University of Georgia game against Georgia Southern, or will be watching it from home, make sure you notice a happy UGA VII lounging around in his new environmentally friendly home from McCar and LP products.

What are the highest temp days you guys see there, Dawg?

Uga might not enjoy the kind of heat we'll be having on the field that day.

Who takes care of him? Student handlers?

It gets hot in Georgia also folks.

Weather wont be an advantage for either team.
Conditioning will play a big part though.

You can have days where it's easily a 110 heat index. Today in Athens it's 98 degrees but feels like 101. Got a break with the humidity only being 35%.

Uga lives in Savannah down on the coast with his owners the Seiler family. The Seiler's have provided Uga's I-VII since the 50's for use as the University of Georgia's mascot. They are the symbol of the University but they are also family pets first. Sonny Seiler got his first Uga when he was a 2nd year law student in Athens. His son handles Uga on game day and walks him around.

I wish I were as knowledgable as you about all of our guys. I had hoped one of the peoples that really keep up would respond in kind. Since nobody has I will give it a shot.

WR Dez Bryant. Possibly the best receiver in College ball. DeMarcus Conner has been the other starter but is known more for his blocking. Justin Blackmon and Isiah Anderson are FR that could produce.
TE Probably Wilson Youman or Jamal Mosley. Youman being a little better blocker.
RB Kendall Hunter was All Big12 last year and is on many AA lists this year. Behind him is Keith toswen who may be just as good and Beau Johnsaon, a GA guy. All averaged over six yards per carry last year and can catch. We have the three tremendous FR in Kye Staley, Jeremy Smith, and Dexter Pratt.
QB Zac Robinson is on all the watch lists and is considered one of the top QBs in the country. Zac was always a very good runner but became a good passer as well last year. Unfortunately, he hurt his shoulder in the bowl game and wasn't able to show his abilities. The only negative about Zac is he runs with reckless abandon and we don't have aproven backup.
OL If you like line play then watch LT Russell Okung ,preseason AA,. We lost two starters from last year's line but the replacements have started. Next to RB this may be the strongest unit on the team.

Defensively:

MLB All of our LBs are back but with new competition. Donald Booker was a juco guy last year that was killer on special teams but had a problem with learning the defense. He seems to have figured it out and is competing heavily with Orie Lemon for the middle. Patrick Lavine and Andre Sexton are back and played well last year. Andre is probably the best player on defense. backups are decent but there is a reason they are backups.
S This is the most talented group we've had in a while. Unfortunately, they are all sophomores but they did play last year as true freshmen. Still, if I were an opposing coach I would test them. Lucien Antoine will be back this year from injury and he is touted to be a real head banger.
CB Perrish Cox is an unbelievable athlete who made some ALL- teams last year as a returner. He is getting a lot of love this year as a CB. Terrance Anderson is a technician. He goes out and plays well game-in-game-out, He just makes plays.
DT Anybody could play here. this has been a perennial problem both from a depth and talent perspective. Ugo Chinasa is considered the best of them and does get a lot of attention. He could be an All big 12 kind of player.
We struggled at DT last year to find a pass rush and it allowed teams to double on the ends which killed our pass rush. Like you , if we can't get pressure with the front four, it will be tough to slow anybody down.
DC - Bill Young We have a new defensive coordinator and all our BCS hopes rest on him and his pridigy. If he is successful, we could be in the picture for a BCS trip and possible MNC. If not,we can still beat a lot of people.
THis is the most excitement we've had around here since the dog had pups.

P/K - Junior Dan Bailey stepped up last year and took control of the kicking duties. He was second in the Big 12 Conference with a 78.9 conversion percentage (15 of 19). He is solid inside the 40.

Bailey's competition again this year is redshirt freshman Quinn Sharp, who was ranked as the nation's top high school kicker in 2007. In addition to competing for the kicking duties, Sharp will be used in kickoffs and punting. He has a tremendous leg and has gotten off some booming punts in the spring. It is hoped that some summer instruction has helped him in his past inconsistencies in his punting.

Special Teams - Dez Bryant (punts) and Perrish Cox (kickoffs) may be the best one two punch in returners in college football.

Punt coverage was strong last year. Kickoff coverage needs to improve.

The special teams units at OSU are special and are treated that way. The best players are on these teams. They eat first, before any of their teammates. And they are held to a different standard than the rest of the squad. It's led to the top players on the OSU roster actively seeking to be included in special teams.

http://www.okstate.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/061709aaa.html

2008 was yet another banner year for the Oklahoma State special teams units under the guidance of Joe DeForest. Punter Matt Fodge was the winner of the Ray Guy Award presented to the nation’s top punter, punt returner Dez Bryant was the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year to go with first-team all-league kick return/punt return status and kick returner Perrish Cox set a Big 12 record with two kick returns for touchdowns to up his career total to four kick returns for scores, a figure that leads all active players. Cox was a first-team All-America honoree by CBSSportsline.com and was a third-team All-America kick returner by Rivals.com.http://www.okstate.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/040109aab.html

FirstDawg I got to tell you, you have very quickly made your way towards the top of a very short list of "foreigners" who I would consider welcome here anytime. Before this game, after this game, and on in to the future.

Most visitors want to come in, talk smack, crap on the carpet, then leave. They bring more annoyance to the board than value. And then every once in a while, there are visitors like you, who I almost wished were wearing Orange. We've had a few in the past. BruinPatti from UCLA, who just exuded class, before and after the game. SouthernMissAlum from USM was another one.

You remind me a great deal of both of those folks.

Enjoy your roadtrip to Stillwater, I'm confident that the Sea of Orange will roll out the red carpet for you.

Hey Dawg....Is this how most Georgia fans see this game? Honestly this game is going to be a tough one for us. Goergia doesn't rebuild it reloads. We have to be able to balance the run with the pass or we're toast, and a tackle every now and then would be nice. But I will be there yellin' my orange covered ass off for the Pokes to pull this one out.

It says the site is down for maintenance so I'll have to read this guys take later.

Let me say this though:

I would be very cautious about taking some internet bloggers ramblings as gospel from the Dawgnation. I have worked in football recruiting and on these big sports networks in the past and there was always 1 thing that was evident to me: The fans who frequent these things are on the lunatic fringe of the fanbase.

If you post on ostatesports.com every day, you're pretty much a 1 percenter when it comes to OSU fans. Likewise for me and Georgia.

The normal fans are generally a lot more sane than us, and that's why it's so nice to find such a good forum :D
