Rhonda & I are going to get in a little weekend getaway this weekend, before school starts back.
We would like to find some cool place to visit here in the state.
Was thinking about a B&B, somewhere that has some nice attractions or events.
What would you fine folks suggest?
Doesnt have to be something exciting. We are looking for relaxing.
Ideas?
I'm looking into the Alabaster Caverns & Great Salt Plains. But not sure yet.

Wednesday we are heading up to Freedom, OK, to stay at Cedar Canyon Logde. Were going to hit the Great Salt Plains, Alabaster Caverns & Gloss Mountains.
On the way home, we are going to take one of 2 routes.
Through Watonga to El Reno thru Chickasha, and on home.
or
Through Waynoka, Sieling, Clinton, Snyder, Lawton, and on home.
What are some cool stuff to see along those routes?
Roadside shops, must see places, hole in the wall eateries, etc.
Just neat slices of Americana, that would be fun to see on the way home?

Clinton has the Route 66 museum, not that I've ever been.

Hey, watch out for rattle snakes at the Gloss Mountains this time of year!
I grew up just a little north east of there in Cleo.

Who named the Glass Mountains? Nobody knows. The name first appeared on a map issued by the federal land office in 1873. Two years later a map from this same source called them the Gloss Mountains, precipitating a conflict, which continues to this day. And it inspired a probable legend.
The 1873 map resulted from a survey led by an engineer named T.H. Barrett. Historiographer James Cloud is of the opinion that the draftsman who copied the 1873 map misread the "a" and thought it was an "o". There is a persistent legend that a member of that first exploring party was British, or Bostonian.
This Britisher (or Bostonian) awakening early one morning in the survey camp east of the mesas, saw the sun glinting on the selenite. He exclaimed in his long eastern patois, "Why, they look just like glaws!"
Thence, the party’s cartographer simply wrote down what he thought he had heard. It was a passing error. Glass was the right word for their name, and so it remains.http://www.okmajordev.org/gloss_mountain_page_2.htm

If you see the big indian in Clinton (which used to be in El Reno when i was a young child) make sure you travel north away from him. Once you get about a block away, turn back and look at him. The thumb placement makes for some giggles...*L*
