View Full Version : My wife being sick and some helpful pointers needed.

I'm not completely freaking out, but, I'm pretty concerned.
In case people aren't following the situation with my wife it started in the Foo Fighters thread.
She was running a slight fever earlier(just under a 100). I just checked it and now it's 101. Should I just keep an eye on it? I'm not used to taking care of her. She's never sick. She's the one that's always taking care of my sorry ass.
If worse comes to worse, her parents live about a 1/2 mile away.
It's been almost 12 hours since we've seen the Doctor. Still not keeping much of anything down. At all.
I just didn't want to perpetuate/hi-jack the other thread.
The Doctor said it was a pretty severe Kidney infection and that her Kidney's were inflamed. She got a shot of anti-biotics at the clinic, and he prescribed her some anti-biotics, some pain pills and some finergran(sp?) gel to rub on her wrist for nausea.
I think that about covers it, for those not following in the other thread.
She seems to be in a pretty good deal of pain, as she's groaning about every 2 to 3 seconds. Should I just wait it out for now and keep monitoring her or what?

I didn't read the other thread, but I will tell you this, if you're not comfortable with what's going on, load her ass back up and go to the emergency room. Sooner rather than later.

If it were me? Yea, i wouldn't take any chances. I'd take her to the ER. I imagine she needs IV fluids for dehydration, at the very least.

Sending up a prayer. I truly hope she is ok.
I'm with the others, Sea. I think you should take her to the emergency room. And if they send you back home, then that's ok--better safe than sorry.

We are now on 1.5 to 2 hours of keeping liquids down and keeping the peaches and a little more soup down.
It's probably the equivalent of about 8-10 oz.'s of Gatorade and water. Mostly Gatorade.
She's not groaning much. I just gave her the second of 2/per day doses of her antibiotics and gave her a pain pill. I've got a cold wet rag on her forehead. Temperature is 100.6. Down a little bit.
Man, my little trooper is fighting this thing, BIGTIME.
I know, in the grand scheme of things it's nothing compared to what others have been enduring lately. My hat's off to all of you. I
That is EXCELLENT news. It doesn't take but a dose or two of antibiotics to start turning that infection around. Sounds like she's turned a corner.
Good nursing, Sir.

Man, I hope so. It's had me more than just a little worried. Considering I don't handle somebody else "Selling Buicks", well at all, I've managed to keep my lunch down too. :) ;)

It doesn't matter what others have endured, your wife is just as important as any of our people!
Any update this morning?

Sorry, just now checking in.
She was able to keep the small amount of fluids she had down last night. This morning she had 2 spoons or so of Jello and a couple hours later, it evacuated itself from her stomach. She hasn't eaten real food since Sunday night. She's had a little bit of Eggdrop Soup and a little Gatorade, and she's having a really hard time just trying to keep it down. She looks like hell. She feels worse and there's nothing I can do. She insists she doesn't need to go to the hospital. I told her if she's throwing up tomorrow there's no need to insist she not go. It's not up for discussion at that point.
The good news, if there is any. She's not running a fever anymore. It's back down to normal and her pain has subsided. She's just really nauseous now and starving.
Thanks for all the well wishes everybody.

Hungry is always a good sign! Hopefully she'll lose the sicky feeling and be able to eat by tomorrow. Glad to hear the pain is gone! That bothered me the most. Tell her to just take it easy, and get more rest.
Tell her i said...
Bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck!
I just wonder if the Sulfa is making her nauseated. Some people, me included, just cannot tolerate it.

Germy, did you talk to the doc today, and inform him that she's still vomiting?

Did not get to talk to the Doctor today. I had to work all day today. Her father came over to watch her this afternoon.
If she's still unable to keep stuff down, she's going to the hospital. I've made up my mind. I should be taking her tonight, but she convinced me to give her until tomorrow. I'll respect her wishes as of right now. Tomorrow is MY day, though.

Sending positive thoughts and prayers - hopefully the nausea subsides by tomorrow morning if not before. :-)

I'm not sure what meds they gave her but the times I've had a UTI there is one drug that always makes me severly nauseated. You might try making her some chicken broth or cup-o-soup or something like that, it might go down (and stay down).
Hope she is better this morning.

Neither can I. Sulfa makes me nauseous and break out into hives. Not fun at all.
Hope she is feeling better today. I know there is some awful crud going around.

Just thought of something while reading the posts here. Not sure how she is with pain meds, but there isn't a oral pain medication that doesn't make me barf...or at least i've never found one. Everytime i take one i get really sick. Maybe her pain meds could be the cause as well..??

Thank you everybody for all the well wishes and information.
My favorite little patient has eaten real food and kept it down all day. She's still in a little pain but no more vomiting. She's still a little nauseous but not even near as bad as it has been. Yay!
She's a little punky still, but, plans on going to work tomorrow. She said she doesn't want to get further behind. I told her that work would be there when she got back, but she won't hear of it.
I guess the phenegran(sp?) gel, and the anti-biotics are starting to finally work. This morning she had a couple pieces of bacon and a piece of toast. This evening she was craving Burrito Grill, so her sister brought her over some shredded pork tacos. She ate 1 whole taco and said she was stuffed. Her poor little stomach is probably the size of a pea.
Well, I guess I might actually get some sleep tonight and so will she. I fell asleep last night at around 3:30am. 6:30am sure does come quickly after only 3 hours of sleep. I'm exhausted. I took 2 benadryl and plan on getting some sleep tonight. Woohoo.
So.....thanks everybody for putting up with my dumbass. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't have this forum to vent on and especially getting information. Thanks for listening. -J-

Yeaaaaa!!! I'm so glad she is better.
I was just wondering why you hadn't posted a update. I was afraid she had gone into the hospital.
You two get some sleep!
*hugs*
